Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon, also billed as Deathgasm II: Goremageddon, is Jason Lei Howden's sequel to Deathgasm, his 2015 New Zealand metal horror comedy. In the US it plays for one night only, in select Alamo Drafthouse cinemas on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. It comes out to rent or buy digitally in the US, Canada and the UK on October 13, and a Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release from Raven Banner follows later in October.
Part of its budget came from its audience. A Kickstarter campaign in fall 2023 raised $325,554 from 2,015 backers against a $300,000 goal. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest in Austin on September 21, 2025, and has since played Sitges, Screamfest, FrightFest's Halloween event and the Brussels and Bucheon fantastic film festivals. It runs 102 minutes.
Milo Cawthorne, Kimberley Crossman, James Blake, Sam Berkley and Daniel Cresswell all return from the first film. Trivium frontman Matt Heafy wrote the score, and Howden wrote and directed again.
The first Deathgasm is free to stream with ads on Tubi, Pluto TV and Plex in the US. We have not seen the sequel yet, because we score films only after watching them.

The first film, Deathgasm (2015), is easy to catch up on in the US. It is free with ads on Tubi, Pluto TV and Plex, free with a library card on Hoopla, and on Bloodstream. It can also be rented or bought on Amazon, the Apple TV Store, Google Play, YouTube and Fandango at Home. That is the availability at the time of writing, and it changes without notice.

Do you need to see Deathgasm first?
Yes, if you can. The sequel picks up years after the first film with the same characters. Dread Central's review notes that the consequences of the first movie are still in effect, and calls the sequel one for fans of the original. Collider's review from Screamfest made a different argument, that the sequel forgets what made the original a cult classic. Either way, the original is where to start.
It is an easy catch-up. Deathgasm runs 86 minutes and is free to stream with ads in the US. It was Howden's first feature, made in New Zealand, about teenage metalheads in a small town who get into occult trouble. WheresTheJump counts 7 jump scares in it, all of them minor.
What is Deathgasm 2 about?
Raven Banner's synopsis picks up years after the first film. Brodie, played again by Milo Cawthorne, is out of work and single, and a battle-of-the-bands contest called NoizeQuest is coming to his town. He decides to put Deathgasm back together to win it, and to win back his ex-girlfriend Medina, played again by Kimberley Crossman.
Returning alongside Cawthorne and Crossman are James Blake as Zakk, Sam Berkley as Dion and Daniel Cresswell as Giles. New to the cast are Kieran Charnock, Harrison Keefe and Maggie Robertson, and the wrestler Adam Scherr, known in WWE as Braun Strowman, appears as a security guard.
Matt Heafy, the soundtrack and the funding
Matt Heafy, the singer and guitarist of Trivium, composed the score. His involvement was announced in October 2023, during the crowdfunding campaign, together with a planned two-disc vinyl soundtrack: one record of songs by various artists and one of Heafy's score. Kickstarter backers were offered an exclusive red vinyl edition. The sequel's soundtrack features Skinless, Havok, Chestcrush, Bulletbelt, Anvil and GWAR, among others. The first film's included Emperor, Skull Fist, Bulletbelt and Axeslasher.
The Kickstarter ran for 30 days in fall 2023 and closed at $325,554 from 2,015 backers, an average pledge of about $162, against a goal of $300,000. The campaign's own updates tied going into production to hitting that goal.
The film is a New Zealand and Canadian co-production between Fish Entertainment, Raven Banner Entertainment and Hangar 18 Media, made with support from Creative Saskatchewan, the New Zealand Film Commission, Bitbot Media and Metalheads Ltd. Raven Banner, based in Toronto, handles world sales.
What the festival reviews said
Reviews from the festival run are split.
Jazzmin Crawley at Dread Central gave it 4 out of 5 from Fantastic Fest, praising the gore effects and calling it one for fans of the original. Daily Dead's Fantastic Fest review ran under the headline that it lives up to its explosively brutal title. Collider's review from Screamfest was the most critical of the major write-ups, arguing that the sequel forgets what made the original a cult classic.
