Portrait of God is a feature film based on Dylan Clark's short of the same name, which he posted on YouTube in August 2022. Clark is directing, from a script he wrote with Joe Russo (The Inheritance, not the Avengers co-director). Lionsgate announced on October 1, 2026 that it had acquired and greenlit it, with Chase Infiniti starring and Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele producing.

As of October 24, 2026 it has no release date. The short has 11.3 million views and is free on Clark's YouTube channel.

When does the Portrait of God movie come out?

There is no release date. As of October 24, 2026, Lionsgate has not announced a date, a release window or filming dates.

Clark is making another film first. He directs Lionsgate's new Blair Witch film, which opens on September 24, 2027 and is his feature directing debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Portrait of God comes after it. That makes a release before late 2027 unlikely. This is our reading of the schedule, not an announcement.

The Portrait of God short, and where to watch it

The short is free on YouTube on Dylan Clark's channel, posted on August 28, 2022. It runs seven and a half minutes and had 11.3 million views on October 24, 2026. YouTube also has reaction videos, re-uploads and an AI-made video with the same title; the link here is Clark's own.

The video's own description sets it up: a religious girl prepares a presentation about a painting titled "Portrait of God." Sydney Brumfield plays her. The Ithacan, the Ithaca College paper, describes a single on-screen character, shot in a dark studio there.

Clark paid for it himself and shot it over five days in spring 2022 with a team of seven, according to The Ithacan.

Is Portrait of God a Jordan Peele movie?

No. Dylan Clark directs it and co-wrote it with Joe Russo. Jordan Peele is a producer, through his company Monkeypaw, with Win Rosenfeld.

One likely reason for the confusion: Universal had an untitled film directed by Peele himself dated for October 23, 2026, and it was pulled from that date in September 2025, Bloody Disgusting reported, citing Variety. That was Peele's own film, not Portrait of God, which was announced three months later.

Who's making it

Universal bought the script in December 2025 "in a competitive situation," Deadline reported. It is the first project to pair Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele. Universal let the project go earlier in 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lionsgate announced on October 1, 2026 that it had acquired the film and greenlit it, with Chase Infiniti in the lead. Raimi and Rob Tapert produce for Ghost House Pictures, Peele and Rosenfeld for Monkeypaw, and Joe Russo also produces. Russo co-wrote the script with Clark.

Clark worked at Ghost House, Raimi's company, before the deal, The Ithacan reported in 2023, and already hoped to turn the short into a feature.

What is the movie about?

Lionsgate hasn't said. The plot is under wraps; The Hollywood Reporter's sources described the film as "a new twist on religious horror."

As of October 24, 2026, Chase Infiniti is the only announced cast member. No trailer or poster has been released.

Is Portrait of God scary?

We haven't seen the film, so we don't know. Its Fear, Gore, Atmosphere, Intensity and Overall scores will go on the film page once we have watched it.

Onmanorama's review of the short says it has "no sudden jump scares," and the film's assistant director told The Ithacan the same. Onmanorama describes a slow, steady build. It is religious horror and opens on a Bible verse, "No man shall see Me and live," so readers who are sensitive to religious imagery should know that going in.

Other things called Portrait of God

Portræt af Gud (2001), English title Portrait of God, is a Danish documentary by Jon Bang Carlsen about searching for God. It is not horror and is not connected to Clark's film.

This Dylan Clark is also not the producer of The Batman, who has the same name.
