When does The Land of Nod come out?
There is no release date. As of October 24, 2026, A24 has not announced a date or a release window, and the film does not have a page on A24's website yet. We have not found it in any festival lineup.
Filming was scheduled for spring 2025, and ProductionList now lists principal photography as finished. TMDB lists the film as in post-production. We will update this page when a date or a trailer is announced.
What is The Land of Nod about?
The plot has been kept quiet. When Variety announced the film, it wrote that "plot details are being kept under wraps."
The one description we have found came from Hollywood North Buzz, a Canadian production-news site, before filming: a group of isolated neighbors in a small, secluded town in Canada's northern territories during a snowstorm. TMDB carries the same line.
Is The Land of Nod a sequel to Skinamarink?
It is not a sequel. IndieWire reported that it is "an original horror feature," and the one description released so far has a different setup from Skinamarink, which follows two children alone in a house at night. Neither Ball nor A24 has announced a Skinamarink sequel. One widely shared "Skinamarink 2" post cites a Deadline story that we could not find on Deadline.
In 2022 Ball talked about other ideas he had, including a take on the Pied Piper and a story about three strangers who see the same house in a dream. Variety noted it is unclear whether either became The Land of Nod.
Who's making it
Ball wrote and directed it. A24 is releasing it worldwide.
The producers are Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush and Josh Safdie through Central Pictures, their production company, and Lawrence Inglee, Daniel Noah and Elijah Wood through SpectreVision, the company behind Mandy and Color Out of Space. Tatiana Bears and Bruno Vernaschi Berman also produce, and Theo Vieljeux is an executive producer.
There has been no official cast announcement. Cast listings on TMDB and Letterboxd include Aviva Mongillo, Huxley Fisher, Phillip Forest Lewitski, Edward Simon and Clare Coulter.
Where was The Land of Nod filmed?
Filming was planned for Edmonton, Alberta, and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Before the shoot, Hollywood North Buzz listed filming in Edmonton and Yellowknife from March 24 to April 22, 2025, and Daily Hive, citing ACTRA's production list, reported that filming was scheduled to run into early May. ProductionList now lists principal photography as finished. Edmonton is Ball's hometown, and Skinamarink was shot there too.
Daily Hive also reported that the production was looking for houses built around the 1960s or earlier.
Will it look like Skinamarink?
We have found no public description of the film's style from Ball or A24, and there is no footage yet.
Skinamarink was shot digitally, and its film grain was added in post-production, Slashfilm reported. Ball has said that significant portions of it were lit only by a television. Hollywood North Buzz described The Land of Nod as a bigger-budget film, though no figure has been reported.
Kyle Edward Ball and Skinamarink
Ball started on YouTube with Bitesized Nightmares, a channel where he recreated nightmares that viewers sent him. It had about 55,000 subscribers on October 24, 2026. His 2020 short Heck served as a test run for Skinamarink.
Skinamarink cost about $15,000 and premiered at the Fantasia festival in Montreal on July 25, 2022. A copy leaked from a festival's online screening platform and spread on TikTok and Reddit. IFC Midnight released it in theaters on January 13, 2023, and it grossed more than $2 million.

Other things called The Land of Nod
In Genesis, the land of Nod is the place Cain is sent. The phrase has long been used to mean sleep, as in Robert Louis Stevenson's poem of the same name. There was also a children's furniture store called The Land of Nod. None of these are connected to Ball's film.
