The Thing

American paleontologist Kate Lloyd is recruited to join a Norwegian Antarctic research team that has discovered a massive alien craft beneath the ice, along with a frozen alien organism. The creature thaws and escapes, revealing its ability to perfectly assimilate and replicate any living being from the inside out. Paranoia consumes the camp as no one can be certain who has been absorbed. Kate devises a test using dental fillings — the organism cannot replicate inorganic material. She systematically identifies and eliminates impostors, but the team is nearly destroyed before she can stop the creature. At the alien spacecraft, she burns the ship to prevent it reaching civilization. In the final moments her trust in the surviving pilot wavers when she notices he has no fillings — and the film ends before her decision, cutting directly into the events of Carpenter's 1982 original.
