Overall
Will drives to a dinner party in the Hollywood Hills hosted by his ex-wife Eden and her new husband David at the house Will and Eden once shared — the house where their son died years ago, which ended the marriage. The other guests are old mutual friends, plus two strangers Eden and David have brought. The evening begins warmly. David locks the front door. Eden and David show a video about a grief support group called The Invitation that helped them find peace by embracing death. Will grows increasingly uneasy: a missing guest, a locked room, a dog he suspects was poisoned, the strangers behaving oddly. His friends dismiss his paranoia as unprocessed grief. Will watches and waits. A guest is killed. Eden and David reveal they are true believers: The Invitation is a death cult, the wine was poisoned, and they intended to give everyone gathered a peaceful death as a gift. Will kills David and fights to save the remaining guests. He and survivor Kira escape outside and look across the Los Angeles hills — red signal lights glow on every hilltop as far as they can see. The ritual is happening everywhere, simultaneously.
