Overall
Fund manager Seok-woo reluctantly boards a KTX train to Busan with his young daughter Su-an to visit her mother on Su-an's birthday. As the train departs Seoul, an infected young woman slips aboard and rapidly turns — the zombie virus spreads car by car in minutes. Seok-woo and a small group of survivors barricade together, including working-class Sang-hwa and his pregnant wife Seong-kyeong. The infected can't see in darkness. The group fights through multiple carriages. A selfish businessman named Yon-suk repeatedly sacrifices others — locking out Seok-woo's group by claiming they are infected. Sang-hwa and a young baseball player sacrifice themselves holding a door so others can reach the front of the train. Seok-woo is bitten protecting the group. As his transformation begins, he allows himself one final memory — his daughter's birth — and throws himself from the train before he turns. Su-an and the pregnant Seong-kyeong walk through a pitch-black tunnel toward Busan on foot. Soldiers at the other end hear Su-an singing and hold their fire.
