In 1989 Derry, Maine, seven outcast kids discover their town has a monster — one that has been feeding on children every 27 years for as long as anyone can remember, and that knows exactly what each of them fears most.

Overall
When young Georgie Denbrough disappears into a storm drain chasing a paper boat, his older brother Bill refuses to accept that he is dead. Bill gathers six fellow outcasts — foul-mouthed Richie, hypochondriac Eddie, traumatized Beverly, new kid Ben, Jewish Stan, and homeschooled Mike — into the Losers' Club. They each encounter a shapeshifting entity that takes the form of their deepest fears, most often appearing as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. They discover Derry is plagued by cycles of catastrophic violence every 27 years, connected to the creature beneath it. The entity — which they call It — manipulates and feeds on the chemical signature of fear, becoming stronger the more its victims are afraid. The Losers track It to a network of sewers beneath the town and descend into the lair: an enormous cavern of dead children's belongings. Beverly is put into a catatonic trance; Ben breaks it with a kiss. Together the seven children fight Pennywise physically, refusing to be afraid, and batter it into retreat. It withdraws into a deep shaft, wounded. The Losers make a blood oath: if It resurfaces in 27 years, they will return.
