I really don't think I "got it", and I'm not going to read an explanation online of what it's about. It's a very fever-dream-ish, psychoactive film all wrapped in a sexual bow. It's weird, but I think everyone knows that going in. Weird isn't bad though. It's just weird, lots of "what the fuck", and looking at my wife and mouthing "what's happening??".
I can't deny it's a beautifully shot film, and the acting and music are top notch. Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson are both wonderful, and complement each other perfectly. Gillian plays Billy as a Gen X "boomer" whose age gap may suggest incompatibility, but who instead ushers in a transformative awakening in the younger, studious Kris. The dynamic and the chemistry are really something to drink in. It's honestly a well made film, but I struggled with trying to understand it. In the Deep Cuts on the film page, I get into what I think it's about (it has spoilers, which is why it's not in the review). It doesn't resonate with me. I appreciate the craft.
