A Quiet Place: Day One

Samira (Lupita Nyong'o) is a terminally ill cancer patient living in a New York City hospice, cynical and resigned to her fate. When her social worker Reuben takes her and other patients on a day trip to a Manhattan puppet show, the alien invasion begins — massive sound-hunting creatures crash into the city and begin slaughtering anyone who makes noise.

Separated from the group and largely on her own with her cat Frodo, Sam sets a single goal rather than fleeing: reach a pizza place in Harlem she once loved — one last indulgence before her illness takes her. She reluctantly teams up with Eric (Joseph Quinn), a terrified British law student who clings to her composure amid the madness.

Together they move through a silent, apocalyptic New York, witnessing the full scale of the invasion and the desperate survival of scattered civilians. A tentative bond forms between Sam and Eric as they navigate the city block by block.

They reach the pizza place. It's intact. Sam gets her slice — a quiet, bittersweet moment of ordinary life in the middle of the end of the world. Eventually they make their way to the waterfront, where boats are evacuating survivors. Eric boards. Sam, at peace with her situation, remains behind.
