Overall
Michelle crashes her car fleeing a troubled relationship and wakes up chained in a cinderblock bunker. Howard, the bunker's builder, tells her there has been an attack — chemical, nuclear, or extraterrestrial — and the outside air is toxic. Another survivor, Emmett, confirms he watched something happen on the horizon and fought Howard to get into the bunker. The three develop a tense domestic routine. Michelle catalogues inconsistencies: a girl's clothing in the bunker, a woman's name scratched into a vent cover, a missing friend of Emmett's who was last seen with Howard. She concludes Howard abducted a girl before. She and Emmett build a hazmat suit to escape. Howard discovers the plan and shoots Emmett. Michelle finishes the suit and escapes through the air duct. Outside she discovers the attack was real — but the perpetrators are alien. A living creature patrols the property; an enormous alien craft drifts overhead. She makes a Molotov cocktail from car supplies, kills the creature, and destroys the ship. On the radio a voice asks survivors with medical training to head toward Houston. She drives south.
