Kill List

Jay is a former British soldier living in Yorkshire with his wife Shel and their young son Sam. He has not worked since a job in Kiev eight months earlier left him traumatized. He drinks, fights with Shel about money, and is barely functional. His old friend and combat partner Gal visits with his new girlfriend Fiona for dinner — the evening collapses into a screaming row between Jay and Shel in front of the guests. Fiona quietly carves a strange symbol on the back of the family's bathroom mirror before leaving.

Gal has a new contract from a mysterious client. Jay agrees. The client is an unsettling older man who insists on a ritual: he cuts both their palms and makes them sign the contract in blood. The job is a list of three targets — a priest, a librarian, and an MP. The pay is generous.

They begin the list. The priest, when shot, looks at Jay and says 'thank you' before dying. Strange, but they continue. At the librarian's home, Jay finds a stash of horrific underground videos — child-abuse imagery. Enraged, he tortures and beats the librarian to death with a hammer in an extended, sickening attack. Gal is shaken; he wants out. Their handler refuses to release them and turns up dead soon after, suggesting there is no way out.

They begin to be followed by masked figures in the woods. Jay tries to send Shel and Sam away, but Shel insists they stay. Reluctantly Jay and Gal proceed to the third target, the MP — except the location turns out to be a remote country estate where dozens of torch-bearing people in wicker animal masks are conducting a nighttime ritual in the woods.

Jay and Gal open fire into the crowd. The cultists rush them. Gal is killed in the rush; Jay escapes into the dark woods, hunted. He is eventually overpowered and dragged back to the clearing, where the cult forces him into a ritual knife fight with a small hooded figure they call the Hunchback. The Hunchback has a knife and is unnervingly fast.

After a brutal fight in the mud, Jay kills the Hunchback. The cult cheers. He unmasks his opponent to find his wife Shel, with their young son Sam strapped to her back beneath the hood — both of them stabbed dead in the fight. Jay realizes too late what he has done. The cult places a crown on his head and hails him as their new king. The film ends on his ruined, screaming face as the cultists celebrate around him.
