Colony ends without a cure. Each colony of infected is governed by a single dominant host, the infected themselves cannot be healed, and a vaccine would only protect the uninfected, with the immune Seo Young-cheol's blood as its only source. Se-jeong beats the hive with the ant mill she describes earlier: wearing a mycelium-coated coat stripped from an infected corpse, she throws it over one of the infected when Young-cheol orders the colony to attack her, and the horde locks into a circular pursuit that crashes the shared network. Young-cheol is shoved into a burning car and dies there, every infected in Seoul freezes at the moment of his death, and the vaccine dies with him. Then the sting: as Se-jeong walks away, one of the frozen infected moves on its own, with nobody commanding it. There is no post-credits scene.
