What you know about fear...doesn't even come close.
Texas heat, a dead girl in their van, and a sheriff who seems to know exactly where they should go next.
Five friends driving through rural Texas in 1973 pick up a traumatized hitchhiker who takes her own life in their van — and find themselves directed toward a remote farmhouse by a local sheriff who is anything but helpful. Marcus Nispel's 2003 remake leans hard into grime and dread, delivering a relentlessly brutal chase film anchored by an oppressive atmosphere and R. Lee Ermey's memorably sinister Sheriff Hoyt.

Overall
It's 1973. Five friends — Erin, Kemper, Andy, Morgan, and Pepper — are driving through rural Texas toward a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert when they pick up a young woman stumbling alone on the road. She is barely coherent, muttering about a bad man at a property down the road. Before they understand what she's telling them, she produces a gun from inside herself and shoots herself in the head. They now have a dead body and no idea what to do with it.
They stop at a remote gas station and call Sheriff Hoyt. He is not what a sheriff should be — menacing, unhurried, clearly connected to whatever happened to the girl. He directs them to wait at an old mill. While they wait, Erin and Kemper go to a nearby farmhouse looking for a phone. Kemper goes inside and doesn't come back. The farmhouse belongs to Leatherface and his family. Leatherface is enormous, masked in human skin. He kills Kemper and hangs him on a meat hook. Andy goes looking and is captured — hamstrung and left alive in the basement.
Hoyt captures Morgan and uses the group as playthings, driving them further into the trap. The film becomes a sustained chase through the farmhouse, basement, and surrounding fields. Andy, alive and suffering on a hook, begs Erin to end it. She does. Morgan is killed when Hoyt uses him as bait for Leatherface. Pepper dies.
Erin is the last one. She fights back — seizes a meat cleaver, hacks off Leatherface's arm, and escapes to the road where she flags down a passing truck. She rams the truck into Hoyt and kills him. She drives away with a baby she found in the farmhouse.
A title card closes the film: Leatherface was never apprehended.
