- Is brutal the same as gory?
- No. Gore measures what the film shows: blood and graphic detail. Intensity measures how hard the film is to sit through. Some of the most brutal films here show very little blood, and some gory films score only middling on intensity because their violence plays as fun. For the most graphic films, see the goriest list.
- What does the intensity score measure?
- The felt severity of the ordeal. Violence and cruelty count, and so does emotional devastation. A film about captivity or a family falling apart can score as high as a torture film if it is as hard to watch.
- Are these the scariest horror movies?
