Before The Conjuring, there was Annabelle.

In 1969, John Form gives his pregnant wife Mia a rare antique doll. That night, cult members — including their neighbor's daughter Annabelle and her boyfriend — invade the house and attack the couple. Police shoot the boyfriend; Annabelle dies clutching the doll, her blood soaking into it. After their daughter Leah is born, demonic activity begins in earnest: fires, levitation, a shadow entity fixated on the infant. A demonologist warns the Forms that the entity is not Annabelle's ghost but a demon that used her violent death as a vessel. The couple's neighbor Evelyn, consumed by guilt over her own daughter's death years earlier, sacrifices herself — leaping from a window clutching the doll. The demon accepts her soul and releases the family. The doll passes through a thrift shop and eventually reaches the nurses whose story opens The Conjuring.
