In 1956, a French priest bursts into flame and is killed by an unseen force. Sister Irene is recruited by the Church to investigate a string of similar murders across Europe — all priests, all connected to Valak's search for the Eyes of St. Lucy, a relic that would dramatically amplify the demon's power. The trail leads to a French girls' boarding school where a caretaker named Jacques — actually Frenchie, still marked by Valak since Romania — works near the children. Valak begins using Jacques and manifesting through goat imagery and distorted magazines. A young girl named Sophie is targeted as a vessel. Irene and her companion Debra trace the relic and use its power in a direct confrontation with Valak, driving the demon out of Jacques momentarily. The film ends with Valak's mark still on Frenchie — his exorcism by the Warrens remains inevitable.
