Overall
In the 1940s, dollmaker Samuel Mullins and his wife Esther lose their daughter Annabelle — called Bee — when she is struck by a car. Grief-stricken, they attempt to commune with her spirit through a porcelain doll, unknowingly inviting in a demon masquerading as Bee. They lock the doll away and seal the room. Twelve years later they take in a nun and six orphaned girls, one of whom — Janice, disabled by polio — is lured into the locked room and gradually possessed. The demon uses Janice to terrorize the other girls and eventually kills the Mullins. Sister Charlotte and the surviving girls flee. Janice is taken to a new orphanage where she abandons her name, calls herself Annabelle, is adopted by a neighbor family, and grows up to join the same Satanic cult responsible for the attack in the 2014 film — completing the circle.
