Two years after Woodsboro, Sidney Prescott is at Windsor College when two students are killed at a premiere screening of Stab — a film based on Gale Weathers' book about the murders. A new Ghostface copycat emerges. Gale and Dewey arrive on campus. The killer works through Sidney's college circle: her new boyfriend Derek, her roommate Hallie, and her theater friends are targeted. Cotton Weary, freed from prison after Sidney recanted her identification, pursues media opportunities and a confrontation with Sidney. The identity of the killer unfolds in layers: Derek is innocent and is killed by the actual killers to frame him. Mickey, a film studies student and Billy Loomis's friend, is revealed as one Ghostface — he wants to be caught and use movies as his legal defense. The second killer is Mrs. Loomis, Billy's mother, who sought revenge for her son's death and funded Mickey's enrollment. Sidney shoots Mickey. Gale and Cotton shoot Mrs. Loomis. Cotton is offered a television interview in exchange for his cooperation and takes it.
