Overall
Sidney Prescott returns to Woodsboro on a book tour for her survival memoir, arriving on the anniversary of the original murders. Her cousin Jill lives in Sidney's old house with her friends Olivia, Kirby, Charlie, and Robbie. A new Ghostface begins killing, targeting the teenagers and their horror-obsessed circle. Dewey is now sheriff; Gale is a stifled small-town wife desperate for a story. The killer knows every rule and meta-rule of remakes. Friends die one by one. The reveal: Jill and Charlie are the Ghostface killers. Jill's motive is to become famous — to be Sidney, to have Sidney's story as her own origin. She kills Charlie to sole the credit, stabs Sidney and stages herself as the sole survivor of a massacre. Sidney survives. She is hospitalized. Jill arrives at the hospital to finish the job and complete her narrative. Sidney outfights Jill, kills her with a defibrillator. The film closes on Sidney alive again — survivor as identity, survivor as burden.
