Overall
In present-day Woodsboro, teenager Tara Carpenter survives a Ghostface attack. Her estranged sister Sam — who has been keeping a secret — returns: Sam is the illegitimate daughter of Billy Loomis. She contacts retired Dewey Riley, now divorced from Gale and drinking in a trailer, who warns her the killer will target legacy characters to draw out Sidney. Gale and Sidney are brought back in. Sam's group of friends — including Tara, Wes, Amber, Chad, Mindy, Richie, and Liv — are all suspects. The killings are framed around the concept of a requel: the killers, obsessed with the original Stab film, believe the franchise has been diluted and want to create a real massacre to inspire a faithful next installment starring Sam as the new Sidney. Dewey is killed protecting the others — a real and devastating loss. The Ghostface killers are revealed as Richie, Sam's boyfriend, and Amber, Tara's best friend, who have been engineering the entire scenario. Amber dies burning and screaming. Sam kills Richie.
