Sam, Tara, Chad, and Mindy — the Core Four — move to New York City for college. A new Ghostface emerges in the city, attacking in broad daylight in crowded spaces and proving far more physically powerful and reckless than previous versions. The killer has built a shrine of every previous Ghostface's costume and weapon. Gale Weathers is targeted in her apartment. FBI agent Kirby Reed — survivor of Scream 4, previously presumed dead — joins the investigation. Sidney Prescott does not appear. The attacks hit Halloween crowds, subway cars, and bodegas. The killer's identity is revealed as a family unit: Detective Wayne Bailey, his son Ethan — Mindy's roommate — and his daughter Quinn — Sam and Tara's roommate who faked her own early death. Wayne is the father of Richie, the Ghostface killer from the 2022 film; he blames Sam for his son's death and recruited his surviving children to destroy her. Sam kills Wayne. Kirby shoots Ethan. Tara finishes him with a defibrillator. The Core Four survive.
