Our catalog, mapped onto the categories
Hooptober is the October horror challenge Cinemonster has run on Letterboxd since 2014. It is named for Tobe Hooper, on the reasoning that you cannot spell October without t-o-b-e. Hooper died three years later, in 2017, and the challenge has carried a memorial edge ever since. The shape is always the same: 31 horror films between September 15 to October 31, each one satisfying categories drawn from countries, decades, subgenres and specific filmmakers. A single film can tick off several categories at once, which is where the puzzle comes in.
The rules are his. This page is just the part we can help with. We keep a horror catalog where every scored film carries our own numbers for fear, gore, atmosphere and an overall, so when a category sends you looking for a silent film or a novel adaptation or a decade you have not covered yet, we can tell you what is in ours and how it played for us.

Cinemonster usually posts them in late August, a few weeks before the challenge opens. Below is the previous edition, Hooptober 12, mapped against our catalog so you can see what this page does. We will swap in the new categories once they land.
